Rafting locations in Tuscany

The region of Tuscany boasts large areas of wild territory, and is a great place for outdoor sports – including river sports in the Lima Valley, Abetone for skiing, Garfagnana and Casentino for trekking and cycling, and Mugello for horse riding, just to name a few.

Rafting and the Lima Valley

The Lima river flows for 40 km through the valley initially with torrential rapids to spread out more and more gently along its course until it plunges into the Serchio River.

Rafting is a sport suitable for all levels of experience – from beginners to those in search of a real adrenaline rush. Different parts of the river are suitable for different types of activity.

The Lima Valley, at Bagni di Lucca, is the perfect place for water sports.

Over the years, the Lima river has carved a route which flows through canyons, rapids and calmer water, and offers a huge range of views and landscapes.

Rafting with Rockonda, 10 years of experience at your service!

Rockonda was founded in 2013 by a group of people with a lifelong passion for river sports. We created the centre and the activities when we found the perfect location in Tuscany, the Lima Valley, which lies between Garfagnana, the Apennines and the Apuan Alps.

Our team is made up of certified guides, who have the youth, enthusiasm and rafting experience to offer a real adventure! Whether you’re a beginner or an expert, we’ve got the right activity for you!

What is rafting?

A brief introduction

Rafting is a water sport which uses an inflatable raft to navigate down a river or torrent.
Once on board the raft, the team (which can vary in number) work together to paddle down the river and navigate obstacles along the way, such as rocks or rapids.

An expert guide directs the crew and gives instructions for the best route and the best experience.

Water sport suitable for everyone

Not all rivers present the same challenges, and the same river has different sections with varying levels of difficulty. For this reason, rafting is suitable for everyone – we choose the section of the river most suitable for the group’s level of experience!

Who can go rafting?

Rafting is a really versatile activity which is suitable for everyone.

You just need to know the river and have an experienced guide with you!

At Rockonda we’ve created two different activities to match your level of experience or spirit for adventure.

ADVENTURE RAFTING

An exciting, three-hour activity descending the Lima torrent on a particularly lively section of the river, featuring rapids, deep water and ruins of old buildings along the riverbank.

Your guide will show you how to steer the raft and how to work together as a team to enjoy your experience to the full on the stunning, crystal-clear water.

SOFT RAFTING

This activity takes place on a calmer river, the Serchio, and is divided between Rafting and River Trekking, where you can explore the river on foot.

It’s a great activity for families or for anyone looking for a more relaxing experience.

PACK RAFTING

The difference between pack rafting and traditional rafting is not the level of difficulty, but rather the raft itself.

Pack rafts are one-person rafts, a small fleet can descend the river together to encounter the rapids of the Lima torrent.

What do you need to go Rafting?

A sense of adventure – we’ll bring the rest!

Here’s a simple list of what to bring. You won’t need any technical kit, it’s easier than you think to get ready for rafting!

When you come to Rockonda, all you need to bring are shoes that you don’t mind getting wet.
Some water will get into the raft, and you might even want to go for a swim in some of the deeper pools of water along the route.

If you feel the cold easily, a thermal t-shirt is recommended. The water in the torrent is quite chilly, which is great in summer, but in springtime you might want another layer.

We will provide you with everything else you need!
We provide you with your wetsuit, a thermal jacket and a life vest, plus a helmet to be 100% safe.
The rafting centre has spacious changing rooms where you can leave your personal items, and also has space for parking.

How much does rafting cost?

You can find all the prices for our rafting activities and water sports on this page!

Remember that we’re open all year round!

We carry out activities on different parts of the river based on the season, so we can offer great experiences all year.

The magic of the Lima Valley

The Lima Valley takes its name from the torrent that runs through it, a stellar location for rafting in Tuscany.

It’s also known as the ‘outdoor sports valley’, with many organisations in the area offering activities.

The town Bagni di Lucca is located at the central point of the valley and is known for its thermal baths, curious “Museum of the Impossible”, nativity scene tradition and its historic casino. It has a rich history and well worth visiting in between sporting activities.

A few minutes away, you will find the Ponte del Diavolo (devil’s bridge), famous for its unusual architecture. You can try Stand Up Paddle boarding (SUP) under this bridge.

A short trip from the Garfagnana

The Lima Valley is located close to the Garfagnana, another area of Tuscany famous for its natural beauty.

Known for its stunning landscape, culinary specialities and medieval villages, the Garfagnana is a great place to visit if you decide to stay in the area for a few days.

If you find yourself in Garfagnana, drop by the Rockonda centre for an afternoon of rafting fun and adventure!

At the foothills of Abetone

Abetone is another area of Tuscany known for its outdoor activities: whether trekking in summer or skiing in the winter, it has something to offer all year round.

The journey from Abetone to the Lima Valley is short, and has wonderful mountain views along the way.

Why not take a break from the mountain and give yourself the gift of adventure with a rafting experience?
